What is Tip Run Eging?
Tip Run is a Japanese boat eging technique developed specifically for targeting deep water squid from a drifting vessel. Unlike standard shore eging, Tip Run is fished vertically — you drop straight down to the bottom in 10–30m of water, apply a few short sharp lifts to bring the jig up 3–10m off the bottom, then hold. The drifting boat provides natural horizontal movement through the water column as the jig suspends. Strikes are detected by watching the rod tip — a gentle tap, a momentary load, or a tiny slack are all bite signals. The name "Tip Run" comes from exactly this — reading the rod tip to detect contact.

Tip Run Technique — Quick Guide
Drop vertically to the bottom. Apply 3–5 short, sharp, rapid lifts. Let the jig suspend 3–10m above the bottom with tight line — the boat drift imparts horizontal movement. Hold for 5–10 seconds, watch the tip. Strike at any change in tip movement. If missed, hold still — squid frequently return to examine the stationary jig. Repeat bottom drop and lift sequence as the boat drifts.
When to Use It
Use the TR08 in open water and over reef structure in 15–30m. Effective across all conditions — the high-contrast pattern produces in both clear and murky water.
